The difference between natural stone and artificial quartz?
Natural stone and artificial quartz are both widely used in construction and interior decoration, but they differ significantly in terms of origin, structure, properties, and applications. Here are some key differences:
Natural Stone
- Origin: Natural stone is directly quarried from natural stone deposits, including types such as granite, marble, limestone, travertine, sandstone, and slate.
- Structure and Color: Each type of natural stone has unique, non-uniform structures and colors, which depend on its formation process and the minerals present in the stone. Every slab of natural stone is unique.
- Durability and Resistance: Natural stone is highly durable and weather-resistant, although some types like marble are more prone to scratching and staining compared to granite.
- Maintenance: Natural stone typically requires regular maintenance, including polishing and surface protection, to maintain its beauty and durability.
Artificial Quartz (Quartz)
- Origin: Artificial quartz is manufactured from a mixture of natural quartz powder (about 90-95%) and polymer resin binders (about 5-10%) along with color additives.
- Structure and Color: Due to industrial production, artificial quartz has uniform colors and patterns, which can be customized. This allows for easy selection of designs that match specific needs.
- Durability and Resistance: Artificial quartz is highly durable, scratch-resistant, and heat-resistant. It is also non-porous and stain-resistant, making it ideal for areas like kitchens and bathrooms.
- Maintenance: Artificial quartz requires less maintenance, is easier to clean, and is more hygienic compared to natural stone.
Applications
- Natural Stone: Often used in high-end projects, for countertops, bathtubs, flooring, wall cladding, and artistic works.
- Artificial Quartz: Common in modern interior spaces, for countertops, tabletops, wall cladding, and other work surfaces.
Depending on the specific requirements of the project and personal preferences, the choice between natural stone and artificial quartz can vary.
